Monsters

Not all is fun and games in the wilderness of the world. Monsters are not uncommon and can be quite dangerous—though not always. They are characterized by their often bestial appearance and violent behavior. They can be hunted for resources, food or sometimes just glory. Some believe some monsters were former creatures changed by magical corruption.

Mammalian Monsters

Serpopard

Massive leopard-like creatures with a long snake-like neck, cobra-like hood and venomous fangs. Found in the desert regions of the world.

Warg

A bestial wolf-like monster that inspires fear. Some believe they’re the result of lycans losing control when transformed.

Ursus

Large bear-like monsters with a long, slamming tail and found rarely in the wilderness of the world. Superstition says to say their true name is to summon them.

Urstrix

Large chimeric creatures with avian and bear-like features, found in the wilderness of the world and commonly on Alis and Borau. Thought to be related to the ursus.

Barghest

Large, dark dog-like monsters that banshee often hunt with. Gentler individuals can be found hanging around graveyards and churches.

Calopus

Large chimeric monsters with deer, cat and wolf-like features and characterized by backwards-facing horns they use to attack with. Rather dangerous but often hunted for meat.

Perytons

Winged deer-like monsters with fangs who, despite appearances, are quite vicious and mean. Efforts have been made to tame them as a mount but so far it seems to be a fool’s endeavor. Not even good for eating as their carnivorous diet makes their meat bitter.

Questing Beast

A rare chimeric monster of a lion, leopard, snake and deer. Extremely elusive and skittish so it’s often hunted for glory.

Avian Monsters

Cockatrices

Chimeric monster with chicken and draconic features. Its stare is paralyzing as long as eye contact is held.

False Cockatrices

Similar to the cockatrice, a smaller chimeric monster with chicken and draconic features. Lacks its paralyzing gaze. Kept for eggs and meat.

Banshees

Dark-feathered bird-like monsters with a shrill screaming cry which superstition says heralds death. It’s bird-like appearance makes it uncanny.

Pheonixes

Rare bird-like monsters known for their functional immortality in which they die in a burst of flames that they later are reborn from.

Quanixes

Rare bird-like monsters known for their functional immortality in which they die in a burst of ice that they later are reborn from.

Stymphel Birds

Metal-feathered territorial birds that are often farmed for their feathers. They live in large flocks which can easily overwhelm lone creatures. Legend says Purrlloy often uses them to send messages.

Draconic Monsters

Snallygasters

Small and annoying chimera with bird and dragon features and a tentacled face which conceals teeth inside.

Tarrasque

A massive and rare dragon-like monster with a turtle’s shell who is so rare and destructive that every appearance is a historical event. Legend says they can be soothed by singing but it’s unclear how effective this truly is.

Abberant Monsters

Ooze

Magically animated slime mold colonies found in dark and damp areas with high magical concentrations. Has some shapeshifting capability which is used to capture prey which they often mimic to draw them in closer—though its rarely successful due to how flawed their mimicry is. Prey on anything they can catch, including sapient creatures. Caught and used for their culinary and medicinal properties.
